My journey in singing.
(And possibly yours too?)
I’ve been singing for over 20 years – at live gigs, for choirs, in my bedroom, and other random spaces (which, of course, include Teo Heng, K BOX, and Manekineko).
Singing’s always been something I’ve loved to do, even if I’ve lacked the ‘talent’ for it. (True story: In one of my first singing lessons, the vocal instructor diagnosed with me ‘tone deafness’ and hinted that she may have to return my money if I couldn’t improve.) During this time, I discovered that lacking ‘talent’ for singing, largely meant lacking the natural aural (listening) ability to hear pitches accurately – whether it’s played from an instrument or coming from your own voice.

Over the years, I’ve studied with vocal coaches specialising in most mainstream styles – from Mando pop teachers to jazz stylists, SLS (speech level singing) pros, and others – learning how to sing with clarity and freedom in my chest, head and mix voices. (In the meantime, collecting an entire library of vocal exercises and ‘tricks’ for getting myself and my vocal students there, too.)
And because of my ‘lack of aural talent’, I’ve developed a scientific system for improving your singing – one that cuts vagueness like, ‘sing with more emotion’ or ‘use a clearer sound’, and uses simple, precise, and easy-to-follow directions.
It’s easy to learn the fundamentals of singing and improve your range, vocal quality and expressiveness. And while I can’t promise to turn you into the next JJ Lin, I’m 100% confident that you can be a better singer than you are today – and this improvement can come really fast!
